The pandemic changed our lives, the way we live, work and interact. Dense cities like New York created new possibilities for public spaces. As local restaurants fought for survival, they took over the streets installing parklets.

There are 13,000 of these sheds, occupying over 23 acres or ten million square feet. Over 100,000 parking spots transformed into outdoor spaces for customers.

This is a visual exploration of these urban forms and how they are transforming the morphology and experience of walking through New York City. It is also an invitation to rethink the possibilities of this small space traditionally conceived for empty parked cars.
